About Naiyarah’s talk

Tell us about the talk that you are planning to give at DevRelCon London 2023

My talk at DevRelCon London 2023 is called ‘Staying Ethical in the Age of Generative AI’, which is kind of cool as right now we have all these different AI services that are growing at an exponential pace. It’s really important to take a look at how we use these services with a bit more responsibility. How we can, as developers, be a little more ethical in the way we’re using the service, as well as communicating this to our users.

Why should people attend your talk? What should they expect to take away from it?

There’s a quote by Cassie Kozyrkov, the Decision Intelligence scientist at Google. She’s written a blog recently about Generative AI. The quote that I really like is: “For better or worse, many decisions related to the responsible and ethical uses of AI are now shifting from AI builders to the users themselves”. That’s very cool when you think about it, and means that we need to now equip the users of apps to make sure that they are able to make responsible decisions. From the developer’s point of view, they must ensure that they’re actually building this into the app, to make it easier for users to make these decisions.

So, my talk is for developers, as well as tech users, to help them navigate the new Generative AI world a little better. While it’s not very comprehensive, at least it’s a step in the right direction.

What are you most looking forward to at this year’s DevRelCon London event?

I attended DevRelCon in 2019 for the first time, which was super cool. I’m glad to be back as a speaker this time. I’m looking forward to meeting and learning from other DevRel experts, and from other DevRel advocates. What I liked the most last time were the sticker exchange tables, so I’m hoping to collect new stickers as well!
