Talk title: Learning From Marketing to Quantify Developer Relations Impact
John has worked previously at Directus and Cipher, and is a natural connector, team builder, and entrepreneur. He has also been a two-time founder, and has 20+ years of marketing and growth experience.
Tell us about the talk that you are planning to give at DevRelCon London 2023
So, my talk with Kevin Lewis at DevRelCon London 2023 is going to be about the practices that marketers typically use. We will be looking at some of the staples, or the more common tools in their tool chest, that DevRel people should also be using.
In my experience, DevRel people tend to operate as an island. And sometimes that island is maybe a little removed from revenue, or an understanding of their impact on revenue. This is something that marketers have learned to identify, either through attribution, or tools that they have, or systems in place where they can then talk, and demonstrate the value they’re delivering, and the impact it has on a business in terms of revenue, or even what that desired impact is. These are some of the things that I’m going to talk about with Kevin. We will be sharing with DevRel professionals our perspective on how they could maybe start doing some of this.
Why should people attend your talk? What should they expect to take away from it?
Kevin and I are both believers in giving information that is actionable. So, you should leave our talk with two or three things that you can start right now, even if it’s just the first steps you can take. Going from zero to one is often very difficult in our minds. I think that when people leave our talk, they’ll have an understanding of at least one thing they can begin, and then, starting from there, it will become much easier.
What are you most looking forward to at this year’s DevRelCon London event?
I’ve never been to a DevRelCon! This is my first one. Don’t you always remember your first?! (laughs)
