DevRelCon Earth
Like many events this year, we’ve had to rethink what DevRelCon looks like in 2020.
After postponing the Tokyo edition back in February, it became clear that San Francisco could not go ahead in June. Both events had a wonderful response to their calls for papers. Rather than lose the opportunity to come together and share, we decided to combine the Tokyo, San Francisco, and London events into a single online conference that we’re calling DevRelCon Earth!
As an online, global event we decided to take a fresh approach. We’re going to hold the conference every Tuesday and Thursday from June 30th through to August 6th.
First-up, the Tokyo team will host two hours with talks from their planned event. Then we’ll have a further two hours with new talks from our currently open call for papers. Rounding off each day will be a further two hours featuring sessions that had been accepted for DevRelCon San Francisco.
We are asking people to register for DevRelCon Earth but it will be free to join. Registering will make sure you get notification of how to join each session and it will enable us to invite you to chat channels accompanying the event. If you’d like to make a donation towards the running costs then you can do that, too, through the ticketing system.
So, about that call for papers.
If you haven’t already been accepted to speak at the 2020 San Francisco or Tokyo edition then we’d love to receive your submissions. This is an especially great opportunity for anyone who couldn’t get to an in-person DevRelCon.
None of us has run an online conference before. So, we’re holding a series of meet-up style sessions in the weeks leading up to the main event.
I’ll be hosting the first one with Joe Nash, discussing what you need to get your live streaming set-up sorted. We’ll be on the DevRelCon Twitch stream from 17.00 UK time (10.00 PST, 18.00 CEST) this Thursday the 23rd of April. Come and take part with us.
Our costs are pretty low for an online event but they’re not zero. So, we’re looking to sign-up some sponsors to support the event. Let us know if you’re interested in sponsoring or helping us out through MCing, producing, and so on.
We are excited to be taking DevRelCon in a new direction. As always, we’ll make the videos available for free here and the entire event will be a celebration of developer relations, developer experience, and community as practised around the world.
